THE PASSION PROJECT
—

This may be the project with nine lives. Renovating an airstream was a bigger task than we intended to take on when we initially purchased. We seem to relearn this every-time we swing back into renovation mode, ha! However, the vision of the end and the excitement that comes from the thought of completing her never shifts. So hopefully this is it and 2022 is the year of the stream! 🙌🏽
CONCEPT – From the initial drawing board, I knew I wanted the concept to revolve around the specific user who would utilize this space. Traveler, yes. But given the fact that this isn’t just your average ‘rv’ or ‘van-life’, but a vintage ‘tin can’, this user holds appreciation for vintage, specific capsules of time.
I knew this wasn’t going to be a retro 70’s take and I sure
as hell wasn’t going to farmhouse an airstream. I wanted this vintage and unique exterior to be appreciated on the inside as much as it is from the outside. A space designed for a unique individual, a temporary user who appreciates a good period piece, and a shifted temporary experience. It came to me quickly after sitting in the empty shell after gutting it out.

CONCEPT
UNSETTLED PASSANGER
—
Unsettled: Sometimes considered as a negative connotation, in this purpose, it acts none other than a subject. In time. Passing in slow motion taking in the details of the typically unnoticed. Living through dissected moments where the dust never settles. Constantly moving forward with no destination, yet clear purpose.
Passenger: A subject. The role acting as a pair of eyes gaining from experiences through time, embedding bits and pieces within along their way. Developing through each chapter, yet never neglecting the originality from the dawn of the journey.

DESIGN DETAILS

This concepts brings in the aspect of the uncommon traveler. The seeker of the unordinary. The seeker of a passing passenger. When thinking about this in design, my objective is to create only the necessary moments within this 250 sqft movable shell with each moment being specific to each use. Bringing in medals and steels and other non-fussy, pure materials and textiles. Closed off spaces to tuck away for a short moment. Creating a designated path to increase the ease and dismiss confusion of the user’s journey.
THE LEARNING CURVE WILL ONLY GROW
—
We have had our fair share of crazy stories when it comes to this project and know more are coming. For starters, the day it was delivered there was a hole on the front end corner that hadn’t been there the previous day, and us deciding to store it in AZ after moving back to CA, costed us SOO much more than in it should have. Alas, the Stream resides in NC where we plan on relocating later this year and we will finally be in the same state as our project and can give her the attention she deserves.
